Intent on our early walk, my wife and I stepped into the jackhammer heat of the day. The blazing sun did nothing to burn through the thick hazy sulking in the sky, but still we persevered. Our usual light banter was replaced by a grim determination to “get our steps in”, discomfort be damned. The few passersby we met had the same reaction: a sigh, an eye roll, and a grumbled “Stay cool. Good luck”.

Words cannot describe the pleasure and relief of walking back through the front door into the cozy comfort of our air conditioned home. Within those cool, dim rooms lit only by the soft sunlight filtering through the blinds, the world was perfect, at least for a brief moment.
